The TRIO SSS Academic Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Director with the activities of the program; academic advising, counseling; as well as maintaining participant records and planning program events. The Academic Coordinator will also work collaboratively and closely with the director to ensure that the program is producing quality services and support systems for students served. Some of the job duties will include: providing proactive (intrusive) counseling services to program participants, assist with course selection, academic advisement, registration, financial aid and academic counseling, career planning and personal issues. He/she will regularly monitor and act upon the academic progress of participants by reviewing course grades. Assess participants' needs and assist in obtaining tutoring assistance. He/she will maintain and update participant confidential records, counsel and educate participants on financial and economic literacy, including financial planning for postsecondary education. Communicate and coordinate with other departments, staff and faculty. The candidate will administer and interpret career assessment tests, coordinate and conduct workshops on academic and life skills. He/she will participate in the identification and selection of students for the program, make referrals and maintain communication with appropriate college staff. He/she will assist in the implementation and evaluation of all phases of needs assessment and basic skills, supervise and provide training for the SSS tutors and peer counselors/mentors. Assist in developing and conducting follow-up studies to track student retention, transfers, career choices, and prepare data for annual performance report. The TRIO SSS Academic Coordinator will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities in the academic laboratories and tutorial sessions. He/she will be responsible for the organization and implementation of counseling activities and the formative evaluation of the participants’ academic progress. He/she will also assist in the planning and implementing of Career Planning and Graduate School activities, assist in the implementation of the follow-up plan to track students who enter graduate school and who transfer to other institutions. Must be able to plan and implement of all matters pertaining to meeting program objectives. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Master's degree in education, counseling, social sciences, or a related field. One year of experience providing personal, academic, or career advising, or equivalent. Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills. Prior work experience with TRIO/SSS programs desirable.
